Recently I started hiking in a bid to keep fit. And I absolutely love it. Not just for the health benefits but for the mental health benefits too. I’ve not felt this good in a long time. There’s a local hiking club and I’ve joined up and made some good friends there. We’re going on an overnight hike next month so I’m checking out different Gregory packs and wondering which one suits my needs best. At this rate, I feel I could tackle Everest!

Kids today don’t know how lucky they are

Our neighbor has 5 kids and they’ve just upgraded one of the play structures in the back yard so that the older kids can still enjoy it. They’ve added a deck area on one end and a tire swing at the other end. It got me thinking back to when we were kids and we had to make do with a home-made den in the back yard and a shared tire swing in the orchard at the back of our house – we didn’t have any strong enough trees in our on yard!

Rocking with the young ones

My nephew is having a fancy dress themed birthday party in a few weeks time and he’s looking for ideas to transform the venue into something out of this world. He’s a big music fan and he’s decided that he’s going to change the venue into guitar-world! We’ve bought lots of inflatable guitars for everyone to rock on out with. I guarantee it’ll be the adults who’ll use these more than the kids…

Feeling ten feet taller!

I made a very smart purchase at the weekend and I’m wondering why I didn’t do it AGES ago!! I’m wondering how I ever managed without them! What I am going on about? Why, it’s my new 2 step stools! I have one upstairs in my walk in closet and one downstairs in the laundry room that I use in there and the kitchen to reach those places I’ve never been able too.

At a recent yard sale I picked up a real treat. The sale had some really weird and wonderful items for purchase. It seems that a local church had fallen into disrepair over the years and a lot of the furniture inside was salvaged and put up for sale at this yard sale. The proceeds were given back to the church to donate accordingly to charity. I got a beautiful church chair for my troubles. Would have loved a matching pair but it wasn’t to be.

Great memories of great times

As a kid I always loved playing cowboys and Indians (or injuns as we used to say!). When we got pocket money we’d sometimes even buy caps for our guns and make our games even more fun! I went to a concert recently and ended up buying a Cowboy Hat; kind of fitting for the concert we were at. But it really took me back to happy days as a child when life was simple.

I’ve been a fan of composting for a few years now and recently I purchased a compost tumbler. I’m only sorry I didn’t buy one sooner! They’re just fantastic! They take the hassle out of composting and make it so much easier. I’m wondering if it would be acceptable to buy them as presents for friends or if it would be just weird?!

The ups and downs and ins and outs of middle age

Why oh why is it that as I get older, my weight yo yos so much? I try to eat healthily, I exercise regularly yet my weight is up and down all the time. My only options now are to stop eating or have a gastric band fitted. I refuse to buy larger clothes all the time because it’s like my body sees this as a challenge to fill them out!

When its your presents and not your presence that’s wanted

I don’t know if she was hinting or not but a female colleague of mine, who recently celebrated a somewhat significant birthday, was telling me about the beautiful gift baskets at Sharis Berries that she had been presented with by her team. Having minimal dealings with this woman and the department she works in, I didn’t feel the need to buy anything for her ‘somewhat significant’ birthday but now I’m getting the guilty feeling that perhaps we should have done something…

Turning into a lean, mean, healthy marine (only, he’s not a marine)!

My brother always led a more unhealthy life by comparison to the rest of us. Until recently that is. He got a bit of a scare when he went for his annual full medical check-up and discovered that his BMI is off the scale and his cholesterol is also heading the same way. So now, instead of frying his food, he grills everything. It’s incredible the difference between now and this time 2 months ago. I think he’s delighted with his new found energy and va va voom!
